Springfield, OR Fire Regulations: Fireworks (2026)

Section 5.288 is one of a run of park-facility offenses in Article X of Chapter 5, alongside bans on alcohol, unpermitted amplified sound, loaded firearms, hunting and open fires, all enacted or last amended by Ordinance No. 6169 on May 15, 2006, and all carrying the identical $720 maximum fine under Section 1.205. The ban covers both possessing and igniting fireworks, so simply carrying legal consumer fireworks into a Willamalane park, along the Middle Fork or Mill Race path, or into a RiverBend-area park facility already violates the section even before anything is lit.

The only built-in exception is for events the park and recreation district sponsors or authorizes itself, meaning a permitted public fireworks display run by the district is lawful while identical private use in the same facility is not. Outside park and recreation district property, the municipal code does not print a general citywide ban on possessing or discharging consumer fireworks; the code's only other fireworks-specific text, Sections 7.150 to 7.156, licenses fireworks sales lots on Community Commercial or Major Retail Commercial zoned land and does not regulate where residents may set them off.

Enforcement of Section 5.288 falls to the Springfield Police Department, which can cite a violator on the spot inside a park facility, with the case handled as a municipal violation in Springfield Municipal Court rather than as a state crime.
