Walla Walla County, WA Fire Regulations: Fireworks (2026)

Walla Walla County Code § 15.04.140(C) requires every applicant for a fireworks sale stand to first obtain a permit and pay the fee set in Chapter 3.08 before offering fireworks for sale. The section then sets the only lawful discharge windows in the unincorporated area. Around Independence Day, fireworks may be discharged between 9:00 a.m. and 11:00 p.m. on July 1st, 2nd and 3rd, and from 9:00 a.m. on July 4th continuously until 12:00 a.m. on July 5th. Around New Year's, permittees may sell fireworks between 9:00 a.m. and 11:00 p.m. on December 29th and 30th and from 9:00 a.m. on December 31st until 1:00 a.m. on January 1st, but discharge itself is confined to the narrower window running from 9:00 a.m. on December 31st to 1:00 a.m. on January 1st.

Outside those specific hours and dates, § 15.04.140(A) folds fireworks enforcement into the county's adoption of the current International Fire Code, administered by the building official acting as fire code official, with fire operational permits under § 15.04.140(D) issued annually and renewed at the fee shown in Chapter 3.08. The building official/fire marshal is the enforcing authority for both the sale-stand permit and the discharge-hours limits, and can use Chapter 15.04's stop-order and misdemeanor tools against a stand or user who violates them.
