Bradenton, FL Fire Regulations: Propane Storage (2026)

Section 42-45 of the City of Bradenton fire prevention chapter is titled storage and use of propane, heating, and cooking appliances, and subsection (a) is the cylinder rule. It says no person shall place or maintain gas or propane cylinders on porches, breezeways, balconies, or attached garages in multi-unit or multi-story buildings. Four locations are named: porches, breezeways, balconies, and attached garages. Two verbs are used, place and maintain, so both putting a cylinder there and leaving one there are covered.

The same section carries two neighboring rules. Subsection (b) bars storing or using charcoal, gas, or wood-fired heaters, grills, barbecues, or smokers on porches, balconies, or breezeways of any multi-unit or multi-story buildings. Subsection (c) bars any heat-producing device or appliance determined by the AHJ to be unsafe due to its application or use.

The Bradenton Fire Department administers the chapter. The bureau of fire prevention, inspection, and investigation sits under the fire marshal, whose duties in Section 42-3 include the storage and use of explosives and flammables. Section 42-53(b)(4) separately lets the authority having jurisdiction issue a cease and desist order, or an order to vacate, for a building or structure containing explosive matter or flammable liquids or gases that constitutes a danger to life, safety, or property.
