Queen Creek regulates propane (LP-gas) storage through the adopted 2021 International Fire Code (Ordinance 797-22, effective January 1, 2023), Chapter 61. Residential cylinders for grills are allowed, but quantity limits, clearances, and permits for larger tanks apply. Town Code Section 9-4-3 makes violating the Town Fire Code unlawful.
Queen Creek does not have a propane ordinance separate from its adopted codes; LP-gas storage and use are governed by the 2021 International Fire Code, which the Town adopted via Ordinance 797-22 effective January 1, 2023, plus the International Fuel Gas Code (2021) for appliance connections. IFC Chapter 61 governs liquefied petroleum gas: it sets maximum aggregate quantities of LP-gas allowed at residential and commercial sites, container location and separation distances from buildings, property lines, and ignition sources, and protection of containers from vehicle impact and tampering. Small DOT cylinders used with barbecue grills and patio heaters are generally allowed at homes within the residential aggregate limits; larger stationary ASME tanks and bulk storage require fire-department review and a permit. Town Code Section 9-4-3 makes it unlawful to violate the Town Fire Code or any lawful order issued by the Fire Chief or Fire Marshal pursuant to the Fire Code or Chapter 18 of the Town Code. The 2021 International Fuel Gas Code and manufacturer listings also govern how propane appliances are installed and connected.
Improper LP-gas storage is a fire-code violation. Under Town Code Section 9-4-3, violating the Town Fire Code is generally a Class 1 Misdemeanor except as otherwise provided in state statute or Chapter 18. The Fire Marshal may issue correction orders, and the Town may recover costs and expenses incurred. Each day a violation continues is a separate offense.
