Queen Creek, AZ Fire Regulations: Outdoor Burning (2026)

1, added to the Town's adopted 2021 International Fire Code under Article 7-2-12 of the Town Code, prohibits open burning of rubbish that contains paper products, full stop, and layers on a second, broader prohibition: any open burning that is offensive or objectionable because of smoke or odor emissions, or that becomes hazardous because of atmospheric conditions or local circumstances, is also prohibited. That second clause gives the Fire Code Official discretion to shut down a fire that is not paper rubbish if smoke, odor or weather conditions make it a problem.

6, Warming fires, permitted only when no other heat source is available and every one of several conditions is met: a responsible person must be in constant attendance, the fire must burn wood scraps inside a noncombustible container no larger than 55 gallons water capacity, that container must have a spark arrester made of iron, heavy wire mesh or other noncombustible material with openings no larger than half an inch, and the container must sit at least 10 feet from combustible material. 3 states that the lighting and release of sky lanterns shall be prohibited townwide, with no exception. Enforcement of all three provisions runs through the Queen Creek Fire Department's Fire Code Official.
