Sedona adopts the International Residential Code with local amendments under Title 15. Smoke alarms and carbon monoxide alarms are required per IRC R314 and R315 in all new residential construction and substantial remodels.
Smoke alarms must be installed in every sleeping room, outside each sleeping area, and on every level of the dwelling. They must be interconnected and powered by the building wiring with battery backup. Carbon monoxide alarms are required outside each separate sleeping area in dwellings with fuel-fired appliances or attached garages. Replacement at end of service life and during substantial remodels is required. Sedona Fire District also recommends 10-year sealed-battery alarms for older homes.
Building Code enforcement during permitted work. Existing dwellings are inspected on a complaint or rental-inspection basis.
