Working smoke alarms required in every sleeping room, outside each sleeping area, and on each story under IRC/IFC.
West Valley City has adopted the International Residential Code and IFC which require smoke alarms in every bedroom, outside each separate sleeping area within 10 feet, and on every story including basements. In new construction and substantial remodels, alarms must be hardwired with battery backup and interconnected so all sound when one activates. Carbon monoxide alarms are required outside sleeping areas in dwellings with fuel-burning appliances or attached garages. Rental properties must have functioning alarms at the start of each tenancy under Utah Code 57-22-4.
