Greenwood, IN Food Trucks & Mobile Vendors: Food Truck Permits (2026)

Greenwood defines a Mobile Food Truck Vendor under Sec. 4-101(a)(4) as anyone selling food from a self-contained operation in a readily movable, motorized, wheeled or towed vehicle used to store, prepare, display, or serve individual food portions. Sec. 4-103 requires a license before operating within the City, issued through the Controller after Police Department review of the sworn application, which for mobile vendors must include a copy of the Board of Health permit for the vehicle, a valid driver's license, vehicle registration, and a photograph of the food truck.

Licenses run 180 days and can be renewed once before a new application and fee are required (Sec. 4-103(d), fee set under Sec. 4-104). Sec. 4-107 layers on operational rules specific to food trucks and street vendors: they may operate in public parking lots or on public property only under a valid use agreement with the property owner; they cannot block, obstruct, or interfere with vehicular, bicycle, or pedestrian flow, or occupy any part of the available sidewalk or roadway width; they may not use amplified or electronic noise; trucks may not use signage beyond what is permanently affixed to the vehicle, or canopies and umbrellas except in inclement weather; and vendors must collect and dispose of their own trash and debris.

Sec. 4-109 sets fines of $50 to $2,500 per offense for violations, and unlicensed vending lets police seize the goods and inventory, held by the Police Department until the vendor obtains a license or, if unclaimed after sixty days, sold under Sec. 4-109(d).
