Greenwood, IN Parking Rules: Loading Zones (2026)

Section 10-03-03 of the Greenwood UDO sets out Commercial Off-Street Loading Facilities standards for any new structure that receives or distributes goods by truck. Loading berths must sit on the same lot as the use they serve, cannot be located within two hundred feet of a residential property, cannot be within fifty feet of a street intersection, and cannot be within one hundred feet of a residential dwelling; they also cannot be placed between the street and the building or on any front facade. Local pickup trucks require a twelve-by-thirty-foot berth with a forty-five-foot maneuvering apron, while over-the-road tractor-trailers require a twelve-foot-six-inch by sixty-foot berth with a seventy-foot apron and at least fifteen feet of vertical clearance.

Berths must be surfaced in concrete or another durable material, and loading areas must be screened from adjacent uses by a five-foot buffer of shrubs or trees forming a fully opaque screen, or a substitute wood fence. Overnight parking of semi-trucks is banned between 10:00 p.m. and 7:00 a.m. except in designated rear-of-building areas, and loading space cannot be double-counted toward a site's required parking. A site plan showing how loading will occur must be submitted and approved before a permit issues.
