Greenwood, IN Parking Rules: Commercial & Oversized Vehicles (2026)

Sec. 8-26(a)(1) of the Greenwood General Ordinances bars parking any commercial vehicle or trailer on a public street, alleyway, road, highway, sidewalk or street right-of-way in the City of Greenwood, Indiana unless an exception applies. Under Sec. 8-26(b)(1), a commercial vehicle with a license plate weight rating of 26,000 pounds or more cannot be parked on any lot, land, premises or street in the city at all, except on commercial property whose primary purpose is storage, in a business's parking lot when needed to conduct business, on commercial property with spaces specifically designated for commercial vehicles (capped at 72 hours if no business is being conducted), or on a dealership's lot selling commercial vehicles.

Sec. 8-26(b)(2) limits a residential lot with a primary building to one commercial vehicle under 26,000 pounds, parked on an approved surface, and bars hauling vehicles carrying explosives, gasoline, chemicals or liquefied petroleum products from residential areas except for deliveries. Sec. 8-26(a)(5) caps a residential lot to a combination of no more than two items among commercial vehicles, boats, boat trailers, pop-up campers, utility trailers, recreational vehicles, campers and travel trailers. Sec. 8-26(b)(4) exempts school buses, utility service trucks with no available off-street parking, and vehicles actively loading, unloading or engaged in construction work. Enforcement runs through citations and orders of abatement issued by a Code Enforcement Official under Sec. 8-30.
