Greenwood, IN Parking Rules: Overnight Parking (2026)

Sec. 8-31 of the Greenwood General Ordinances makes it a violation to leave a vehicle parked overnight in an on-street parking space designated as no overnight parking, or in a City of Greenwood owned parking facility, defined as a building, structure or land used for off-street vehicle parking. The section sets a bright-line test: any vehicle found in one of those designated spaces or facilities at any time between 2:00 a.m. and 4:00 a.m. is considered parked overnight, so drivers using downtown Greenwood's on-street spaces or a city parking garage need to be out of a restricted spot before 2 a.m.

The Board of Public Works and Safety retains discretion to prohibit overnight parking in designated on-street spaces and, conversely, to approve overnight parking in city-owned facilities where it finds a need exists, so the restriction can vary by specific location as posted. The related fee schedule in Sec. 8-32 sets hourly rates for the 520 South Meridian Street Parking Garage, from $2.00 for up to two hours to $25.00 for 10 to 24 hours, and lets the Board set special event parking fees up to $40.00 per day.

Sec. 8-30 governs enforcement of parking and storage restrictions generally through citations issued by police officers or code enforcement officers, with signs required to mark restricted areas under the Indiana Manual on Uniform Traffic Control Devices.
