Greenwood, IN Parking Rules: Street Parking Limits (2026)

Sec. 8-20 of the Greenwood General Ordinances lists the places where no vehicle or trailer may be parked on City of Greenwood streets, regardless of any other provision, except when necessary to avoid a traffic conflict or under a police officer's direction. The barred spots include on or across a sidewalk, in front of a public or private driveway so as to block it, within an intersection, within 15 feet of a fire hydrant, within 30 feet of a flashing beacon, stop sign or traffic signal, within 20 feet of a fire station driveway (and 75 feet on the opposite side), within a marked fire lane, and within 20 feet of a crosswalk or street intersection.

Sec. 8-19 separately governs everyday residential parking: only validly licensed operable passenger vehicles, vans, and pickups up to one ton may sit in a driveway, connected surface, street or alley, vehicles cannot be parked on grass or other plant material, and both the owner and driver are jointly liable for a violation. Sworn Greenwood Police Department officers and city code enforcement officers share concurrent enforcement authority under Sec. 8-19(l). Sec. 8-22 declares an illegally parked vehicle a public nuisance, and Sec. 8-23 lets a Police Officer have it towed and impounded, with release only after payment of impoundment and storage fees or an order from the Chief of Police or a court. Sec. 8-21 directs the Common Council to mark restricted areas with signs consistent with the Indiana Manual of Uniform Traffic Control Devices.
