Greenwood, IN Parking Rules: Snow Removal Parking Rules (2026)

Greenwood General Ordinances Section 8-29 lets the Mayor or a designee impose a parking prohibition on City streets whenever falling snow, sleet, freezing rain, or a forecast from the United States Weather Bureau or another weather service shows that traffic must be expedited and parking cleared for plowing. The ban applies only to streets the Mayor designates as snow emergency routes, and once declared it stays in force, with no fixed expiration, until the Mayor or a designee announces it is over. Section 8-29(b) requires the Chief of Police, or anyone else authorized by the Mayor or the Common Council, to post signs on the restricted streets that conform to the Indiana Manual on Uniform Traffic Control Devices, so drivers can identify a posted snow emergency route on sight.

Enforcement runs through the Greenwood Police Department and the City's code enforcement staff. Section 8-29(c)(1) sets the penalty at not less than $15 nor more than $100 per offense, and treats each day a violation continues as a separate offense; after a driver's third admission or judgment of violation, the Code's general penalty provision, Section 1-13, takes over for further increases. Section 8-29(c)(2) also allows the City to tow and impound any vehicle left parked in violation, and the owner must pay all towing and storage costs before the vehicle is released, on top of any fine already charged.
