Camarillo, CA Food Trucks & Mobile Vendors: Sidewalk & Mobile Vending (2026)

Section 5.42.040 requires every sidewalk vendor, whether stationary or roaming, to hold a city sidewalk vending license before operating anywhere in Camarillo, and Section 5.42.050 separately requires a cart permit for each cart used. Applicants must provide government-issued identification, proposed hours and location or route, proof of a valid Camarillo business tax certificate, a state seller's permit, at least $500,000 in liability insurance with the city indemnified, a completed background check, and, for food carts, a Ventura County Environmental Health Division permit and food handler certificate (Section 5.42.060).

Licenses and cart permits expire one year after issuance, cannot be transferred, and an applicant may hold no more than three cart permits at a time. Carts may not exceed seventy-two inches long, fifty-four inches wide or seventy-eight inches tall, excluding a small condiment table and trash receptacle (Section 5.42.070(D)), and a stationary food cart must operate within two hundred feet of an approved restroom. Stationary carts cannot vend in residential zones at all, though roaming carts may pass through if they keep moving except to complete a sale (Section 5.42.080).

Carts must stay at least five feet from crosswalks, fire hydrants and driveways, eighteen inches from the curb, and twenty feet from any outdoor dining area, and cannot block a sidewalk to less than four feet of clear path (Section 5.42.090). Vending is barred within three hundred feet of a permitted city event from one hour before to one hour after it runs (Section 5.42.100).
