Irvington, NJ Food Trucks & Mobile Vendors: Sidewalk & Mobile Vending (2026)

Section 324-39 of the Township Code, "Prohibited conduct and use regulations," sets the sidewalk and street rules every mobile vendor in Irvington must follow. " Subsection H sets a minimum pedestrian right-of-way of six feet, so a truck or vehicle cannot park on a sidewalk if doing so would narrow the clear path below that. Vendors must also stay at least 10 feet from intersecting streets or sidewalks under Subsection F and 10 feet from any curb cut depressed for pedestrian or vehicle movement under Subsection G, at least 15 feet from a fire hydrant, crosswalk or driveway under Subsection J, and at least 60 feet from a bus stop under Subsection I.

Subsection C separately bars parking in a way that obstructs pedestrian or vehicle right-of-way, blocks access to abutting property, or creates a nuisance or traffic hazard, and requires any vendor selling food for immediate consumption to provide and maintain a clearly marked litter receptacle and to pick up all trash before leaving a location. Section 324-40 layers additional siting limits on mobile food trucks specifically: no operating within 200 feet of an elementary, middle or high school during the school year, and no operating within 150 linear feet of a brick-and-mortar retail food establishment. m. A police officer retains discretion under § 324-40F(2) to order a truck to move even from an otherwise legal spot for public safety.
