Wylie, TX Food Trucks & Mobile Vendors: Sidewalk & Mobile Vending (2026)

Sec. 5.2.J.5 of the Zoning Ordinance treats a food truck or cart vendor selling from a sidewalk as Accessory Outside Sales, defined as the area of an existing site used for the generally permanent outside sale of food or merchandise, expressly including year-round rotated seasonal merchandise and food truck and cart vendors. Before any sidewalk sales can begin, the area has to be shown on a site plan filed with the city, and the City Planner has authority to approve or disapprove adding that accessory sales area to an existing site plan, or to send the request to the Planning and Zoning Commission instead.

The sidewalk portion of an outside sales area is capped at a location within twenty feet of the building, must leave at least a five-foot passable distance for pedestrians, and may only operate during normal business hours; overall outdoor sales area is separately capped at five percent of the adjacent building's floor area, or up to fifty percent of common lot area if the use sits in a residential subdivision on HOA-owned land. Any part of the accessory sales area that is not on a sidewalk, and sits within twenty-five feet of the property line, has to be screened from adjoining roadways and properties by at least an eight-foot barrier.

A vendor located outside those site-plan boundaries, or operating overnight instead of during business hours, is regulated instead as an unlisted or temporary use rather than as Accessory Outside Sales.
