Taunton, MA Food Trucks & Mobile Vendors: Vending Zones (2026)

A of the Peddlers, Solicitors and Vendors chapter caps how long a licensed hawker or peddler, including a mobile food vendor selling from a cart or vehicle, may occupy a single spot: no more than half an hour in one location. After that half hour, the vendor cannot simply move next door; the section bars relocating to any spot within 300 feet of the previous location for two hours. Together the two limits are meant to keep street vendors circulating rather than functioning as a fixed storefront on the public way without the licensing and zoning review that a permanent location would require.

The rule applies on top of, not instead of, the underlying license requirement in the same subsection, so a vendor must both hold a Sealer of Weights and Measures license and respect the movement rule to sell lawfully. A related, separate provision governs the annual Christmas Parade: § 337-3 bars any hawker or peddler, licensed or not, from selling along the parade route from the parade's noon start time until four hours afterward, covering Broadway, Taunton Green, Main Street and Summer Street.
