Bradenton, FL Garage & Yard Sales: Frequency, Duration & Permits (2026)

Schedule 5.1.1 of the Bradenton Land Use Regulations lists the activities the City Council treats as accessory uses of a residence, and conducting a yard sale is one of them. The restriction column allows only two such sales, lasting not more than three days each, per calendar year per residence. The schedule counts by residence, so each address carries its own two sales, and it says nothing that would let a neighbor or a group of households pool their allowance.

Section 5.1 defines residential buildings for this purpose as one- and two-family houses, multi-family dwellings and group care facilities, so the limit reaches apartment buildings as well as single houses. Chapter 5.0 opens with the rule that accessory uses are determined by the principal use of the property rather than by the zoning district. Its own example is a residential property in a commercial zone, which is allowed the uses shown for residential buildings. A yard sale at a house in a commercial district therefore follows the same two-sale limit.

Chapter 5.0 also says a permit or other approval is not required for an accessory use unless the principal use is a special use or unless otherwise stated in the Land Use Regulations. The yard sale row states no permit. Signs are a separate matter: the chapter says signs require a Sign Permit unless otherwise exempt. The chapter adds that uses which do not comply with the accessory use regulations are considered principal uses and are subject to the permitting requirements of the land use atlas district where the property lies. A third sale in one year, or a sale that runs a fourth day, is outside the accessory use the schedule allows.

Other rows of the same schedule apply to a household that sells from its property. Working at one's trade or business from a residence bars signs, displays or merchandise, outside storage and employees or customers using the property unless a special use permit for a home business has been granted.
