Full Breakdown

Fontana Municipal Code Sec. 15-2(c) caps yard and garage sales at no more than four specified weekends per calendar year, with the city council choosing the dates by resolution, weighing factors like inclement weather or neighboring cities' sale weekends. A weekend runs Friday, Saturday, and Sunday, and sales may only run between 7:00 a.m. and 6:00 p.m. on those days. Sec. 15-2(a) defines a yard or garage sale as an event where a dwelling unit's occupants offer their own personal property to the public, and Sec. 15-2(b) bars selling new merchandise or items acquired specifically for resale; sales must take place on residential premises only. Sec. 15-2(e) requires that displayed goods stay off the public right-of-way and be arranged so fire, safety, and health officials retain emergency and enforcement access throughout the sale. Sec. 15-2(g) exempts court-ordered property sales and rummage or fundraising sales run by nonprofit organizations from the entire section, including the four-weekend cap.

Violations & Fines

Sec. 15-2(f) makes any violation an infraction with graduated penalties for repeat offenses, the amounts set by separate city council resolution rather than fixed in the code itself.
