Huntsville's garage sale rules sit in Chapter 20, Article II of the Code of Ordinances, carried over from the 1982 Code (Secs. 18-333 through 18-336). Sec. 20-31 defines a garage sale as the display and offer for sale, at a residential lot in the city, of household furnishings or personal possessions belonging to people who actually live there, where many items are displayed at once and the public is invited onto the premises to view them. Sec. 20-32 backs that up: it's unlawful to hold a sale where the goods aren't the household's own furnishings or possessions, and specifically prohibited to sell property 'specifically acquired for resale' or accepted on consignment for the sale, closing off using a garage sale as an informal flea-market storefront.

Sec. 20-33 ties the sale to the seller's own address: holding a sale is unlawful except on premises the seller has the right to possess and where they're a household member, and it caps any single sale at three consecutive days. Sec. 20-34 then limits frequency: no garage sale may be held at the same premises within 60 days of that household's last one, whether the earlier sale was held by the same resident or another household member. None of these four sections states its own fine, so a violation falls to the Code's general penalty, Sec.
