Lawton, OK Garage & Yard Sales: Frequency, Duration & Permits (2026)

Article 7-20, Residential Sales, governs garage, porch, yard and patio sales in Lawton. Section 7-20-1-2002 requires a permit for any residential sale, displayed at the sale so it is visible from the curb, though sales sponsored by a school or church on its own premises are exempt. Section 7-20-1-2005 limits each permit to a period not to exceed three consecutive days, though a sale rained out can be rescheduled once within 30 days with the licensing agent's verbal authorization. Section 7-20-1-2007(A) then sets the frequency cap directly: no residential sales permit may be issued for the same premises more than one time in any thirty-day period or no more than four times in any twelve-month period.

Subsection B carves out two narrow exceptions: an executor, administrator, heir or other representative of a deceased person's estate may get an additional permit to dispose of the estate's property, and a new owner or lessee of the premises may also qualify for an extra permit. Signage is separately capped under Section 7-20-1-2008 at one sign per permit, no more than two hundred feet from the sale area and no larger than twelve square feet per side. A violation forfeits the permit and bars the violator from getting another residential sales permit for two years under Section 7-20-1-2011, with each day of an unlawful sale counting as a separate offense.
