Taylorsville, UT Garage & Yard Sales: Frequency, Duration & Permits (2026)

Section 13.11.130, Garage Sales, sets standards that apply to every garage sale at a residence within the city. Frequency is capped under subsection A at no more than two garage sales per residence per calendar year, defined as January 1 through December 31, and consecutive sale events must be separated by at least a fourteen-day period. Subsection B limits the duration of any single sale to no longer than forty-eight consecutive hours. Subsection C requires the sale to be located at the actual residence of the owner of the goods; for a neighborhood garage sale where three to five neighbors pool their belongings into one super sale, the merchandise must be gathered at just one of the participating sellers' residences rather than spread across several yards.

Subsection D restricts what can be sold: items must be used goods that actually came from that residence, and anything purchased or obtained elsewhere with the intent of reselling it at the garage sale is expressly prohibited and identified in the code as a violation of the section. Subsection E clarifies that temporary sales conducted within commercial zoning areas are not garage sales under this section and are instead regulated elsewhere in the Land Development Code, so a commercial pop-up sale does not count toward, or fall under, the twice-a-year residential cap.
