Under LEMC 17.48.030, no one may engage in a home occupation without first filing a permit application with the Planning Department, and no business license is issued until the Planning Department approves and issues the home occupation permit.
LEMC 17.48.030 requires every home occupation to first file a permit application with the Planning Department; no business license issues from the Finance Department until the home occupation permit is approved and issued by Planning. Under LEMC 17.48.040, the application must be filed by the property owner or a full-time tenant, and acceptance does not constitute approval. All home occupations must meet the standards in LEMC 17.48.050 β including no non-resident employees (LEMC 17.48.050.J: only resident family members may work there), no office open to non-residents (LEMC 17.48.050.K), no on-site sales or display, and no signs. Violation of any standard is cause for immediate permit revocation. Application forms and fees are administered by the Planning Division.
Operating without an approved home occupation permit, or violating any LEMC 17.48.050 standard, is cause for immediate permit revocation and penalties under the Municipal Code. A business license cannot issue until the home occupation permit is approved.
