LEMC 17.48.050.D prohibits any sign or advertising for a home occupation that encourages customers, clients, or the public to visit the premises. No sign or vehicle signage may draw attention to the home business.
Under LEMC 17.48.050.D, no signs may be displayed in connection with a home occupation, and no advertising may be construed as encouraging customers, clients or the public to visit the premises. LEMC 17.48.050.H bars parking any vehicle or trailer displaying signs to attract attention to the premises, and LEMC 17.48.050.E prohibits any alteration letting the dwelling be recognized as nonresidential (by materials, color, lighting, signs, sounds or vibrations). For residential property generally, on-premises sign limits are set by Chapter 17.196 LEMC, which requires a permit for most signs (LEMC 17.196.030) and restricts residential-zone signs by size, height and lighting (LEMC 17.196.170). Because a home occupation cannot advertise to the public, the practical rule is no business signage.
Displaying a home-occupation sign violates LEMC 17.48.050.D and is cause for immediate revocation of the home occupation permit plus penalties under the Municipal Code. Unpermitted signs are also enforceable under Chapter 17.196 LEMC.
