' Every element of that sentence is a separate limit. Only one sign is allowed per home occupation, not one per service or one per business name. The sign cannot be illuminated, so internally lit signs, backlit channel letters and spotlighted signs are all out. The area cap is 1 square foot, far smaller than the several-square-foot allowances typical of commercial signage elsewhere in the UDC's sign article. And the sign has to be placed flat against the building, meaning it cannot be a freestanding yard sign, an A-frame sandwich board on the sidewalk, or a sign mounted on a post or fence; it has to be affixed directly to the exterior wall of the house.
