Palmdale, CA Home Business: Signage Rules (2026)

Palmdale's home occupation clearance ordinance treats signage as one of its strictest limits. 060(D)(3) allows no sign relating to the home occupation at all, except for whatever signage state law independently requires; there is no local sign permit or size allowance carved out for a home business the way there is for a commercial storefront. 060(D)(4) extends that restriction to advertising generally: any advertisement for the home occupation, whether a flyer, a listing, or an online post, cannot include the residential address, and no advertising material of any kind can be displayed anywhere on the site of the home occupation.

The same subsection ties into the broader appearance requirements in Sec. 060(D)(7) and (D)(8), which bar altering, furnishing, or decorating the dwelling in a way that would let it be recognized as a place of business, and bar any entrance or exit specifically marked or provided for the home occupation. Read together, these provisions mean a home business in Palmdale cannot post a yard sign, window sign, or address-bearing advertisement, and cannot mark the property in any way that signals commercial activity to a passerby.

A clearance holder who posts a prohibited sign or advertises the home address risks the same enforcement path as any other clearance violation: a written notice from the Director by certified mail, a stipulated correction period, and revocation of the clearance if the violation is not resolved.
