Home occupations in unincorporated Miami-Dade County are prohibited from displaying external signage under Section 33-25.1. The business must not be externally visible from the street or neighboring properties.
Miami-Dade County Code Section 33-25.1 prohibits home occupations from displaying any external signage, business identification, or advertising visible from the street or neighboring properties. The home occupation must maintain residential character of the dwelling. No external modifications that indicate commercial activity are permitted. All materials and equipment must be stored indoors. The business must not be detectable from outside the dwelling unit through sight, sound, smell, or other means at distances greater than 100 feet. Miami-Dade County Article VI of Chapter 33 regulates all signs. Fixed signs and inside signs visible from the street require permits. Letter height cannot exceed 3 feet and signs over 24 square feet require engineered calculations.
Unauthorized signage at a home business is a code violation. Displaying commercial signs in residential zones may result in removal orders and fines under Chapter 8CC.
