Section 27-609(1)a is unambiguous: no exterior advertising or signs will be erected, and no outside display or activity that depicts anything other than residential activity will be allowed at a home occupation. The rule goes further than a typical sign-size cap by prohibiting exterior signage entirely, and it extends into how the business may advertise off-site as well, specifying that advertising for the home occupation shall not include any address, only a telephone number. That address restriction protects the residential character of the surrounding block by preventing walk-up traffic drawn by published street addresses, reinforcing the separate limit in § 27-609(1)e that caps customer presence to an irregular and incidental basis.

The sign ban applies across the R-1, R-1(B), R-2, and R-2(B) districts wherever a home occupation permit has been issued by the planning division, and it sits alongside the section's other conditions, family-only staffing, no interference with neighbors' radio or television reception, and no heavy equipment storage, that collectively keep an approved home occupation invisible from the street. A business that wants any exterior signage has to abandon the administrative home occupation permit and instead seek a special use permit under § 27-593(a)(12), where the board of commissioners can impose its own sign conditions case by case.
