Wyandotte County, KS Parking Rules: Commercial & Oversized Vehicles (2026)

Section 35-491(a) makes it unlawful to stand or park any vehicle with a gross vehicle weight rating (GVWR) over three-quarters of a ton on a street, alley, or on private property within a residential district in Wyandotte County/Kansas City, Kansas. The only carve-out in subsection (a) itself is for a rear dual-wheel pickup truck that is not used for commercial purposes; that truck may park on the street, alley or private lot the same as any ordinary passenger vehicle. Subsection (b) adds two further exceptions that apply only to private property, not the street or alley: a recreational vehicle, and any vehicle with a GVWR of 10,000 pounds or less, may be parked on private property in a residential district regardless of the three-quarter-ton cutoff.

Two additional situational exceptions apply everywhere in the district: a heavier vehicle may stop while actually loading, unloading, or performing a service at a property on the same block, and a vehicle may park in front of its owner's place of business during that business's operating hours. , regardless of the vehicle's weight. Kansas City, Kansas police and code enforcement treat the weight-based parking ban as a standalone offense, and a truck can be cited under § 35-491 even if it is otherwise legally registered and operable.
