Wyandotte County, KS Parking Rules: RV & Boat Parking (2026)

Section 35-491(a) generally bans parking any vehicle heavier than three-quarters of a ton GVWR on a street, alley, or private lot within a Wyandotte County residential district. Subsection (b) breaks that ban for two categories of vehicle, but only when the vehicle sits on private property rather than the public street or alley: a recreational vehicle, and any vehicle with a GVWR of not more than 10,000 pounds. That means a camper, travel trailer, motorhome or similar recreational vehicle can be parked in a Wyandotte County driveway or yard regardless of its weight, so long as it stays off the public street or alley and complies with any other applicable ordinance, such as the county's separate nuisance, junk-vehicle, or zoning rules that are not part of § 35-491 itself.

On the street or alley itself, an RV is treated like any other heavy vehicle and remains subject to the three-quarter-ton ban in subsection (a) unless it also qualifies as a rear dual-wheel pickup or fits within one of the loading or business-hours exceptions that apply chapterwide. The ordinance sets no time limit, registration requirement, or permit process for RV parking on private property; it is simply exempted from the weight-based ban, which is why RV owners do not need a special waiver to keep a camper at home in a residential district.
