Full Breakdown
The zoning code lets residents operate a home occupation as an accessory use, but the operator must reside in the dwelling and every employee must also be an inhabitant of the home: no outside hires. The business is capped at 25 percent of the building's combined floor area or 500 square feet, whichever is smaller, and it cannot alter the dwelling's outside appearance or add mechanical equipment beyond normal household use. The director of neighborhood and development services can impose added limits case by case.
Violations & Fines
Exceeding the size cap, hiring non-resident employees, or otherwise breaking these standards forfeits the accessory use's by-right status; the city's neighborhood and development services department can require correction through code enforcement.
