Tarpon Springs allows home occupations in residential districts subject to Article IV special regulations. Office-only uses without customer traffic are permitted by right; activities involving clients, deliveries, or significant footprint require Board of Commissioners approval.
Under Appendix A, Article IV (Special Regulations) of the Tarpon Springs Comprehensive Zoning and Land Development Code, home occupations are split into two categories. Permitted-by-right uses include a business office used primarily for telephone and mailing purposes (no customer traffic), home crafts or artist studios, and tutoring of one pupil at a time. Use is limited to 10% of the residence floor area. Occupations involving customer traffic, sales, deliveries, signs, or floor area beyond 10% require Board of Commissioners approval. All operators must obtain a valid City business tax receipt.
Operating without approval or a business tax receipt may trigger code enforcement notices, citations, daily fines, and an order to cease the home occupation.
