The City Commission adopted this notice-and-cure procedure by Ordinance 2024-18 on November 18, 2024, responding to Florida's 2024 law restricting public camping and sleeping on public property. Weston's § 52.85 does not itself criminalize sleeping outdoors; it creates the administrative channel the state law requires local governments to maintain for people to flag violations. Under § 52.85(A), the City Manager must designate an e-mail address or other electronic submission method and publish it on the City's website as the single point of intake for complaints.

Section 52.85(B) spells out what a complete complaint needs: under § 52.85(B)(1) the location of the violation, under § 52.85(B)(2) the date and time it occurred, under § 52.85(B)(3) a description or photograph of the person involved, and under § 52.85(B)(4) any other information that helps the City act on or cure the reported condition. The section frames the City's obligation as taking reasonable action within the limits of its authority once a complete notice is received; it does not set a fixed response deadline, referring instead to F.S. § 125.0231(2) for the underlying restriction.
