Section 124.37.1(A) allows Electric Vehicle Charging Stations and Battery Charging Equipment as accessory structures in all zoning categories, subject to placement and design conditions. In Single-Family Residential Districts, equipment is limited to personal use, cannot support wholesale or retail sales, may sit inside or outside the garage, and if placed outside must be located on the side of the house near the garage; an alternate location needs an administrative variance from the property owner. Multiple-Family Districts carry the same personal-use limit and are capped at Level 1 or Level 2 charging.

For nonresidential and multi-family parking lots, section 124.37.1(B) lets up to 5 percent of required parking spaces be designated as charging stations, with at least 25 percent of those offering non-proprietary connectors; single-family districts are excluded from this parking-ratio rule. Section 124.37.1(C) sets equipment standards: charging equipment must be screened from the right-of-way, stand no higher than 72 inches from finished grade, include a retraction device or cord hanger to keep cords off the ground, sit with electrical components 12 inches above the 100-year flood plain, and carry UL 2202 listing while complying with SAE and National Electrical Code standards.

Outside single-family districts, posted equipment must also display voltage and amperage, any usage fees, safety information, and a contact number. Signage identifying a station, where allowed, must measure 24 inches by 18 inches and follow MUTCD sign D9-11bP. Section 124.37.1(E) requires a permit from the city before installing any charging station.
