Weston, FL Animal Ordinances: Chickens & Livestock (2026)

Section 124.23(B)(8) governs keeping, boarding, or raising animals as an accessory use to a residence on a minimum-sized plot within the AE district. The numeric caps apply per plot, not per species group: no more than four total among horses, cattle, sheep, and goats combined; no more than ten total among cats and dogs combined; and no more than 20 total among fowl and rabbits combined. The subsection excludes offspring under normal weaning age from the count, and it does not apply to an injured or abandoned animal incidentally found and temporarily cared for until it can be returned to its natural habitat or to an appropriate welfare agency.

Because this accessory-use allowance sits inside § 124.23, which governs only the AE district, it does not extend keeping of chickens, other fowl, or livestock to Weston's single-family or multi-family residential districts, where the Code's permitted-use tables do not list animal husbandry as a use. Citywide, § 52.52(F) separately makes it a noise violation to keep 'any Animal, bird, or fowl that causes frequent or continued Loud and Raucous Noise,' regardless of the zoning district or how many animals are kept, so a rooster or other loud fowl can draw a nuisance citation even on AE-zoned property where the numeric caps are otherwise met.

Enforcement of both provisions runs through the City's code enforcement process rather than through Broward County Animal Care, which separately handles licensing and welfare of dogs and cats.
