Weston, FL Fence Regulations: Material Restrictions (2026)

Weston's zoning code draws a hard line on fence materials in section 124.33(D), the Prohibitions subsection of the city's Fences and Walls standards. Subsection (D)(3) bars barbed wire, electrified fencing, and razor-wire topped fences or walls on any property in the city, with no carve-out for agricultural, estate, or commercial parcels; the prohibition applies citywide regardless of zoning district. The same subsection separately bars fences from encroaching on drainage, water and sewer, or lake maintenance easements, and bars any fence or wall that would impede drainage to or from an adjacent property.

Where chain link is used, section 124.33(E) narrows the acceptable finish: the fence must be black or green vinyl-coated, the mesh must be knuckled (rather than left with exposed cut wire ends) at both the top and bottom, and the installation must include both a top rail and a bottom rail. A bare galvanized chain link fence without vinyl coating, or one finished with exposed knuckle ends, does not meet the section 124.33(E) standard even though chain link itself remains a permitted fence type. These material rules sit alongside the placement rules in the same section: no fence or wall may stand in front of the principal structure, and none may extend along a side yard beyond the front plane of the house on that side, under section 124.33(D)(1) and (D)(2).
