Kissimmee, FL Hurricane Preparedness: Hurricane Shutters (2026)

Kissimmee's Property Maintenance Code treats hurricane shutters as a timing rule, not a free-standing right. Boarding or shuttering windows and doors is only allowed once the National Weather Service issues a hurricane or severe-weather advisory for any central Florida county. Materials must be kept in good repair, free of holes and mold, and removed within seven days after the storm passes or the advisory expires, whichever comes first. Permanently mounted storm shutters, rolling, accordion, colonial, or Bahama-style, are exempt from removal but must stay open during non-advisory periods or if the unit sits vacant for an extended time.
