Ridgewood requires owners and tenants to keep grass and weeds cut on lands abutting public streets, removing overgrowth within three days after written notice.
Chapter 115 of the Village Code addresses brush, grass and weeds on private lands abutting public streets. Owners and tenants must remove grass, weeds, and other impediments within three days of receiving notice from the Village. The chapter works alongside Chapter 223 Property Maintenance, which requires exterior premises to be kept clean, safe, and sanitary, free from accumulations that could harbor pests. Failure to comply allows the Village to perform the work and assess costs as a lien. Violations can trigger escalating fines under the property maintenance penalty schedule.
Fine of $125 first offense, $250 second offense, $350 third or subsequent. Village may abate and lien costs.
