Pageland, SC Landscaping Rules: Tree Trimming (2026)

Section 28-43 of the Pageland Town Code puts the cleanup duty on whoever does the trimming: it is unlawful for any person trimming trees on or over any street or sidewalk to fail to remove promptly any branches, limbs or other waste caused by the cutting, trimming or digging. 218 and sits in Chapter 28, Article II, among the town's other street-obstruction rules. It applies whether the trimming is done by a homeowner, a landscaping contractor or a utility crew working near overhead lines. 00, imprisonment up to 30 days, or both, with every day the waste is left in place counting as a separate offense.

The town does not have to wait for a property owner to comply. Section 28-45 separately authorizes the town administrator to cut and remove any portion of a tree, shrub or other growth that overhangs a public street or sidewalk and interferes with the safe movement of pedestrian or vehicle traffic, and Section 28-46 lets the council order removal of a sight-obstructing tree on private property within ten days of written notice, with failure to comply itself a misdemeanor. If the owner still refuses, Section 28-47 lets the town remove the obstruction and place the cost as a lien on the property, added to the town's tax bill.

Together these sections give code enforcement a cleanup duty on the person doing the cutting and a backstop authority for the town to act when trimming waste near a street or sidewalk is left unfinished.
