Full Breakdown
City Code § 44-19 prohibits watering lawns and landscaping between 10:00 a.m. and 4:00 p.m. daily, citywide, to conserve water during peak-demand daylight hours. The city commission may also impose tighter time-and-method restrictions by resolution during periods of critical water concern, posted at city hall and published in a newspaper first. Exemptions cover micro-irrigation and drip systems, establishing new landscape, watering-in chemicals required by law or best practice, irrigation repair and maintenance, low-volume hand watering with a self-canceling shutoff nozzle, water-cooled HVAC systems, and swimming pool maintenance. The rule applies to every developed property inside city limits regardless of water source.
Violations & Fines
Watering outside the exempt uses during the restricted 10 a.m.–4 p.m. window is a code violation; enforcement and penalties run through the city's general code-enforcement and citation provisions.
