Wellington, FL Landscaping Rules: Water Restrictions (2026)

Code Section 9-28 sets Wellington's year-round landscape irrigation schedule. Subsection A bans watering daily between 10:00 a.m. and 4:00 p.m. regardless of address. Subsection B assigns existing landscaping, meaning any planted more than 90 days ago, to two watering days a week based on street address: even-numbered addresses, rights-of-way, and unaddressed locations water on Thursdays and/or Sundays, while odd-numbered addresses water on Wednesdays and/or Saturdays. New landscaping installed 90 days or less gets extra flexibility under Subsection C: it can be watered once on the day of installation regardless of the schedule, and for the first 30 days it can be watered Monday, Tuesday, Wednesday, Thursday, Saturday, and/or Sunday, narrowing to Monday, Wednesday, Thursday, and/or Saturday from day 31 through day 90.

Irrigation systems can run outside the restricted days or times for testing, maintenance, or repair with someone on-site, but no more than once a week and no more than ten minutes per zone. Hand watering, low-volume or micro-irrigation, rain barrels, and cisterns are exempt from the day-and-time schedule entirely under Section 9-28(F), and watering-in fertilizer or pesticide applications required by the product label is allowed under Subsection E. If the South Florida Water Management District declares tighter restrictions during a water shortage, those District rules override Wellington's schedule under Subsection H. Section 9-30 makes any violation of Article III citable, enforced through the penalties in Chapter 2 and, alternatively, through Wellington's Special Magistrate.
