Bensalem, PA Landscaping Rules: Weed Ordinances (2026)

Section 62-1 prohibits any grass, weeds, or other vegetation that is not edible or planted for a useful or ornamental purpose from growing or remaining on any property in the Township beyond a height of one foot, and separately bans vegetation that throws off an unpleasant or noxious odor, conceals a filthy deposit, or produces pollen. The section declares any growth over that limit a nuisance detrimental to the health, safety, cleanliness, and comfort of Township residents. Section 62-2 puts the duty to cut on the owner of vacant or owner-occupied premises, and on the occupant where someone other than the owner occupies the property.

Section 62-3 lets Township Council or any designated officer or employee give written or mailed notice to the responsible owner or occupant, who then has five days to cut the growth; if the notice is ignored, Township crews may cut the vegetation themselves and recover the cost from the owner. Section 62-4 makes any violation, including a failure to comply with a cutting notice, punishable by a fine of up to $600.00 and costs of prosecution, with imprisonment of up to 30 days if the fine goes unpaid.

Each day the violation continues is treated as a separate offense, and the section specifies that notice to the offender is not required to sustain a citation.
