The Lee County Lot Mowing Ordinance (No. 14-08) declares grasses and weeds over 12 inches on lots a nuisance in unincorporated areas. The County notices owners, then mows and liens the property if the overgrowth is not abated.
Under the Lee County Lot Mowing Ordinance (No. 14-08), grasses and weeds in excess of 12 inches covering more than 50 percent of an unimproved lot, impairing property welfare, or creating a fire or health hazard are a declared nuisance where any part is within 150 feet of a developed adjacent property in a Future Urban Area or platted subdivision. Agriculturally classified property is not treated as nuisance vegetation. The County publishes annual notices each April and October reminding owners to keep grasses and weeds under 12 inches. Owners get written notice with 21 days to abate and 15 days to request a Hearing Examiner review challenging the violation.
If overgrowth is not abated within 21 days, the County mows it and assesses the actual cost plus a $150 administrative fee, recorded as a lien accruing interest. A third notice within 12 months can add a $450 repeat-inspection administrative
