Pottstown, PA Landscaping Rules: Weed Ordinances (2026)

4 amends the International Property Maintenance Code, 2018 Edition, which Pottstown adopted for Chapter 5, Code Enforcement, Part 3, under Ordinance 2019 (April 10, 2006), with this specific revision added by later amendment. The six-inch cap applies to 'all premises and exterior properties' located within 100 feet of any habitable structure or building, a radius that reaches most yards, side lots and adjoining vacant ground in Pottstown's tightly platted rowhouse blocks. Council carved out an exception for naturalized areas, riparian buffers, managed meadows and other no-mow zones the municipality designates, recognizing that not every landscaped or conservation-style yard should be mowed to a uniform height.

Separately, and without any 100-foot qualifier, the section bans noxious weeds outright across the entire premises. The Licensing and Inspections Department's Code Enforcement Officer administers this Part alongside the rest of the Property Maintenance Code, and the Borough's general notice procedure for grass and weed violations, set out in Chapter 1, § 215, lets the officer post a notice directly on the property rather than mail it, giving the owner a window to cut the growth before the Borough does it and liens the cost, or issues a citation, against the property.
