Fond du Lac County, WI Mobility & Curb Rules: E-Bike Classes (2026)

Section 42-9, "Special rules for use of recreation trails," governs the county's seven recreational trails: the Eisenbahn State Park Trail, Mascoutin Valley State Park Trail, Northwestern Trail, Old Plank Road Trail, Peebles Trail, Prairie Trail, and Wild Goose State Park Trail. Subsection (c) is a single short adoption clause: the county does not spell out separate rules for Class 1, 2, or 3 electric bicycles in its own text; instead it defers entirely to 2019 Wisconsin Act 34, § 4, the state law creating Wisconsin's e-bike classification and access framework.

The rest of § 42-9 fills out the surrounding trail-use picture: motor vehicles are barred from the trails except for emergency, police, maintenance, and motorized-wheelchair use (subsection b); personal assistive mobility devices are separately permitted under Wis. 803 (subsection d); riders must obey posted trail signage (subsection e); no one may leave a marked trail without department permission (subsection f); horses are barred except on the Mascoutin Valley State Park Trail (subsection g); and equipment or vehicles over 12 feet tall cannot use the trails (subsection i).

Because the county's e-bike rule tracks whatever the state Act permits, a rider's obligations turn on the state classification framework the county has incorporated rather than any county-specific class limit.
