Weston, FL Mobility & Curb Rules: E-Bike Classes (2026)

Weston's definitions chapter, City Code § 1.01, classifies electric bicycles by how the motor engages and its top assisted speed. A Class 1 machine assists only while the rider pedals and cuts off at 20 mph. Class 2 caps at the same 20 mph but its throttle can move the bike without pedaling. Class 3 assists only while pedaling, like Class 1, but keeps assisting up to 28 mph. Every class carries a motor rated under 750 watts, and the definition excludes motorized scooters outright.

Once inside a Weston park, § 100.03(A) of the Traffic and Motor Vehicles in Public Parks section governs: no rider may operate an electric bicycle, motorized mobility device or motorized scooter anywhere in a Public Park or Recreational Facility except on park roads and in designated parking areas, and only for parking. Riders on park roads face a 15 mph speed ceiling, the same limit § 100.03(B) sets for every other vehicle on park property unless posted signs or markings state a different limit. § 100.03(C) exempts motorized mobility devices used by disabled persons and by Public Park personnel, or anyone the City Manager separately authorizes. Vehicles left outside designated spots, or kept on park property past closing hours without the City Manager's written permission under § 100.03(D)-(E), are treated the same as any other unauthorized park vehicle.

Enforcement runs through the Enforcement Officer defined at § 1.01: a Broward Sheriff's Office deputy, a police service aide, a Code Enforcement Officer, or anyone else the City Manager designates. The park chapter sets no dollar figure of its own, so the citywide general penalty at § 2.99 fills the gap: up to $1,000 per day for a first violation, $5,000 per day for a repeat violation, $15,000 for an irreparable violation, and up to 60 days imprisonment.
