Wicomico County, MD Mobility & Curb Rules: Red-Light Cameras (2026)

Article VI of Chapter 197, School Zones and Speed-Monitoring Systems, was adopted June 7, 2011 by Bill No. 2011-05. 1 of the Transportation Article of the Annotated Code of Maryland and lets the County Council establish school zones by resolution, each consisting of all public roads within a half-mile radius of the named school, with the maximum speed limit and the dates and times it applies fixed in that resolution. The article originally paired that school-zone authority with a companion section, § 197-37, Speed-monitoring systems, which would have let the county deploy automated speed cameras to enforce those school-zone limits.

The editor's note attached to § 197-36 in the current code records that former § 197-37 'was repealed 10-17-2017 by Bill No. 2017-11,' six years after it was adopted alongside § 197-36. Wicomico County's code contains no separate red-light-camera authorization anywhere in Chapter 197; the only automated photo-enforcement program the county ever codified was the school-zone speed-camera system created and later undone by the County Council in these two bills. Because § 197-37 is gone, the school-zone provision that remains, § 197-36, only lets the county post and enforce speed limits by traditional means, not by camera, within the half-mile school zones it designates by resolution.
