Santa Paula Airport (SZP) is a public general aviation airport managed by the City of Santa Paula. The airport has voluntary noise abatement procedures requesting pilots avoid overflying residential areas below 1,500 feet AGL. There are no mandatory curfew hours.
Santa Paula Airport (SZP) is located along the Santa Clara River west of downtown. The airport is primarily general aviation with single-engine and light aircraft. The city maintains voluntary noise abatement procedures: pilots are requested to avoid residential overflights below 1,500 feet AGL, use runway 04 for departures when winds allow (directing traffic away from the city center), and minimize pattern work between 9 PM and 7 AM. The airport does not have a mandatory noise curfew. Airport operations are governed by the Santa Paula Airport Master Plan and FAA regulations. Noise complaints should be directed to the airport manager. The airport's proximity to agriculture means crop-dusting aircraft may also operate seasonally.
Noise abatement procedures are voluntary and not enforceable against pilots under federal preemption (FAA has sole authority over aircraft in flight). The city can work with the FAA and airport management to address chronic noise concerns. Complaints about low-flying aircraft can be filed with the FAA Flight Standards District Office (FSDO).
