Glendale, AZ Noise Ordinances: Amplified Music & Outdoor Sound (2026)

Sec. 25-66 targets amplified and reproduced sound specifically, distinct from Chapter 25's general noise-nuisance article. Subsection (a) makes it unlawful at any time of day to operate a radio receiving set, phonograph, or other sound producing or reproducing mechanism in a manner that lets it be heard more than one hundred twenty-five feet from the premises where it is located, so long as the sound also rises to the level of an excessive, unnecessary or offensive noise causing discomfort or annoyance to a reasonable person of normal sensitivity in the area.

, it is unlawful to operate the same categories of equipment so that sound is audible off the premises at all in a manner that causes discomfort or annoyance, effectively tightening the daytime 125-foot threshold into an off-premises audibility standard after dark. Subsection (c) adds a duration limit independent of both: continuous operation for more than two and a half hours without at least a thirty-minute intermission is itself unlawful if it can be heard off premises and causes discomfort. Subsection (d) exempts events operating under a valid city-issued special event or event permit, provided the event follows its permit conditions, which covers concerts, festivals and similar permitted amplified-sound gatherings that would otherwise trip subsections (a) through (c).
