Chandler, AZ Noise Ordinances: Amplified Music & Outdoor Sound (2026)

Chandler City Code § 11-10 declares it unlawful for any person to "disturb the peace, quiet and comfort of any neighborhood by creating therein any disturbing or unreasonably loud noise." Section 11-10.1 designates specific categories of disturbing noise, stating in subsection A that the intent is "to prohibit all noises that are disturbing or unreasonably loud" and that the listed categories are illustrative, not exclusive. Subsection B.8 targets amplified music directly: "The playing or operating of any radio, phonograph, orchestra or other musical device or instrument in a manner that is disturbing or unreasonably loud to a reasonable person outside the facility or unit from which the noise emanates." A separate rule in B.6 curfews vendors: anyone selling food and drink from a conveyance is barred from ringing bells, playing chimes or running an "amplified musical system" for advertising in a residential area between 8:00 p.m. and 9:00 a.m. and between 1:00 p.m. and 3:00 p.m., and no such noise may be made while the vehicle is parked at all.

Subsection B.6.a defines an amplified musical system as any mechanical or electrical musical instrument or music-producing device equipped with an electrical amplifier or loudspeaker, and B.6.b bars any bells, chimes or amplified system from making noise that disturbs the peace or causes discomfort to a reasonable person of normal sensitivity. Section 11-10.1C exempts noise from emergency vehicles and from lawfully conducted business or commerce during normal hours. Because Chapter 11 does not set its own penalty for § 11-10.1 violations, the citywide default in Code § 1-8.3 applies: a violation is a Class 1 misdemeanor punishable by a fine up to $2,500, imprisonment up to six months, or probation up to three years, with each continuing day a separate offense.
